ANGEL FORSLING, CLASS OF 2010

“My grandfather owned his own oil and gas company, so my family always suggested that I look into petroleum engineering,” says petroleum engineering major Angel Forsling. Taking a course in rock properties with Petroleum Engineering Department Head Ramona Graves sealed her interest. “It wasn’t the level of intensity that made it interesting, but the total unfamiliarity I had with the subject.”

“I originally chose Mines because I knew that if I put in the necessary effort, I would have a solid career after graduating,” she says. And her conviction has proven true: after Angel receives her bachelor’s degree in May, she’ll be headed to California to work as a production engineer for Aera Energy, where she interned last summer. That’s a fitting outcome for the stellar student and varsity swimmer whose education is supported by the McKee Family Scholarship.

Receiving the McKee Scholarship allowed Angel to drop her work-study job during the school year. “That has been a tremendous relief considering how much time swimming and school take up themselves.”

Recently named Swimmer of the Week for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and a regular Dean’s List student, Angel attributes her success on all fronts to her commitment to “giving nothing but my best to the things I do.”

“I will definitely consider contributing to Mines Athletics once I get started in my career,” she says, “because I have a first-hand understanding of what athletes go through at a school that’s this intense – and I know how much of a help scholarship support truly is.”
