ConocoPhillips Continues Partnership with $1.4 Million Pledge
With a generous $1.4 million pledge,
ConocoPhillips continues its annual support for scholarships and
programs at Mines and brings the school closer to its $25 million goal
for Marquez Hall, the interdisciplinary teaching and research facility
planned for campus that will house the Petroleum Engineering Department.
“This
investment reflects our continuing commitment to Mines and its mission
to achieve academic excellence in science, engineering and technology,”
says Robert A. Ridge, ConocoPhillips’ Vice President for Health, Safety
and Environment and a 1971 alumnus.
Over just the past five
years, the company has awarded more than $1 million to Mines. A top
campus recruiter, ConocoPhillips currently employs more than 170 Mines
graduates. Since 1998, the company has supported select Mines students
though its prestigious ConocoPhillips SPIRIT Scholars Program.
Mines is one of only eight universities in the country at which
ConocoPhillips has established this program, which provides students
with $5,000 scholarships, hands-on industry experience, mentoring and
professional development, and valuable leadership and service
opportunities.
ConocoPhillips’ continuing support for Mines
students, facilities, research consortia and other initiatives
demonstrates the value the company places on a Mines education. Such
tremendous support helps keep Mines moving forward.
“The Mines
community is proud to count ConocoPhillips as one of its most dedicated
corporate partners,” says President Bill Scoggins. “And we are thankful
for their support as we work toward continued excellence in critical
fields related to earth, energy and environment.”
