Lockport, IL
Senior, Mechanical Engineering

"I have always had a love for math and science, and I wanted to be able to play golf while pursuing an engineering degree. Mines is the perfect place for me.

Outside of the classroom, I am a member of the Mines golf team, CSM Freeride Collective, 'DigNITARIES and the Senior Class Gift Committee. Being a varsity athlete has taught me great time management skills and helps me maintain a balanced lifestyle. Extracurricular activities help me stay focused and motivated, which will benefit me when I enter the workforce.

I have had two internships since being at Mines, with Vulcan Materials and Shimmick Construction Company. These internships have taught me to really appreciate what I am learning at Mines, both inside the classroom and outside, so that I can apply the skills I have acquired to life after Mines. I have also come to realize how endless the opportunities are within the field of engineering. After graduation, I would like to work in the action sports industry, specifically with snowboard manufacturing, or in the renewable/sustainable energy industry.

In my four years at Mines, I have seen so many changes on campus. Private support has helped to build several new buildings on campus, including Marquez Hall and the W. Lloyd Wright Student Health Center, as well as improve classroom technology and laboratory settings with state-of-the art equipment and instrumentation. As student, having the most innovative equipment and labs helps to produce the best results possible and working in world-class facilities prepares you for working in similar facilities in industry.

Mines is at the forefront of the future of society. Students know what it means to work hard, which is exactly what industry demands. Knowing that my peers and I will someday be at the forefront of the nation's future makes me proud to have worked so hard to get a degree from Mines.
